Cheese Scones
I’m usually more of a sweet toothed person but when it comes to savory, I love cheese! Cheese Scones weren’t something that I’d made previously but my Grandma’s classic scone recipe was so tasty that I thought, why not try giving it a twist. I can certainly say that these will now be made on a regular basis as they’re too good not to! They’re super easy to make and didn’t take a long time to prep or to bake (approximately 30 minutes in total). The recipe below makes 8 regular sized scones, perfect for family snacks.
Ingredients
- 230g self-raising flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 45g butter
- 100g mature cheddar
- 140ml milk
Step 1
Pre-heat the oven to 200 degrees (fan).
Sift the flour and salt into a bowl.
Step 2
Rub the butter into the flour and salt until they form a breadcrumb consistency.
Step 3
Grate the cheese and stir into the flour and butter mixture.
Step 4
Add the milk and mix thorough until all the milk is absorbed.
Step 5
Roll the dough out with a rolling pin onto a floured surface and use a cookie cutter to cut out the scones.
Step 6
Place the scone dough onto a baking tray lined with baking paper. Brush the tops of each with a little milk and bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes.
Step 7
When the scones are golden brown, remove them from the oven and allow to cool.
Once cooled (or a little warm), enjoy!
