Colourful Chocolate Tiffin

When I was at school, the Chocolate Tiffin was one of my favourite desserts. It wasn’t until I became an adult though that I realized how easy it was to make (if only I’d have known as a teenager!)

Now at my school (and I think most others), the Tiffin was always plain to look at yet tasted delicious. With my recipe, I wanted to cover both – adding some colour whilst maintaining the taste.

You can put your own twist on this recipe by adding in different dried fruits, experimenting with different biscuits and maybe even add some nuts in. The decoration can also be changed to suit your occasion or your personal style.

Ingredients

  • 80g butter
  • 300g dark chocolate
  • 3 tbsp golden syrup
  • 10g cocoa powder
  • 20g caster sugar
  • 180g digestive biscuits
  • 80g raisins
  • Sprinkles and chocolate chips to decorate

Step 1

Place some boiling water into a pan and put a heatproof bowl over the top. Make sure the water doesn’t touch the bowl.

Slowly melt and mix the butter, half the chocolate, syrup, sugar and cocoa.

Step 2

In a separate bowl, break the biscuits into smaller pieces and add the raisins.

Step 3

Once the chocolate mixture is melted and smooth, remove from the heat. Add the biscuit and raisin mixture and mix until all the biscuits are fully coated. Be careful, the bowl will be hot.

Step 4

Melt the rest of the chocolate. I melted in the microwave using a small heatproof bowl. I recommend doing this in 30 second bursts so as not to burn the chocolate.

Put the Tiffin mixture into a baking dish lined with greaseproof paper. Pour the chocolate over the top and spread out until even.

Step 5

Cover with colourful decorations!

I used 50g of white chocolate chips and some colourful chocolate balls.

Leave to set in the fridge for approximately 5 hours (overnight if possible) then cut into pieces and enjoy!
