Sock Puppets
Sock puppets are one of the easiest things to make as a family. It’s a great way to spend some time together while letting your imaginations run wild. Why not even put on a sock puppet show when they’re finished?
If you have some odd socks lying around (and I know I’m not the only one whose washing machine eats them!), then why not give it a go. Simply follow the step by step guide below.
What You’ll Need
- Socks
- Scissors
- Glue (hot glue guns are the best and have the quickest drying times
- Googly eyes
- Tissue paper
- Mini pom poms
- Pipe cleaner
- Mixed fabrics
- Beads
Step 1
Mark out where you would like to put the eyes and the nose on the sock.
Tip – It helps to put the sock on your hand while you do this.
Step 2
Using glue, stick on the googly eyes and pom pom nose. Why not add some lips too or a tongue!
Step 3
Glue on hair – made from either strips of tissue paper or ready crinkled paper.
Step 4
You can make earrings for your sock puppet using 2 pieces of coloured pipe cleaner and 2 beads. Simply thread the bead onto the pipe cleaner, bend into a loop and twist the ends to secure.
Step 5
Make accessories and arms from cardboard, tissue paper or fabric and stick on the sock with glue.
Step 6
Add eyelashes by cutting 4 small 1 inch strips of coloured card and glue to the sock, just above the googly eyes.
Step 7
If you’re not using a hot glue gun, you’ll need to allow drying time. This varies depending on the glue but will generally be 1-2 hours.
Finished!
Once dry, your sock puppets are now ready for a socket puppet show!
